I am the middle girl of a 5 girl family – six counting my mom. You notice I did not mention a dad. Well, that’s because my parents divorced after 23 years of marriage. I was 7 at the time. My two younger sisters and I were “home alone” while our mother worked nights, weekends, second jobs, and third jobs to support us. We learned to cook, clean, and take care of a household at an early age – needless to say! And we learned about commitment, work ethic, and the importance of staying the course by watching my mom – a wonderful legacy that she left us. I tell you this to let you know that I am aware of the struggles that exist in trying to manage families, households and tight budgets. But God can use everything in our lives if we let Him. My background is probably one of the reasons that home and family are so important to me. It taught me that you can still create a “home to be savored” in less than ideal circumstances. I am very proud of my mom – and am thankful she left me steps that were vivid and clear to follow after! This post is a tribute to my mom on Mother’s Day this year – because even though she is not with me physically anymore – I am influenced by her every day of my life! Someone is watching you too – strive to leave steps worthy of following.
