It’s that time of year when we want to show appreciation to teachers! Here’s a sensible, useful, inexpensive and fun option for you. Have each child bring in some coins – a handful, a baggie full – whatever they want. Whatever mom is in charge will collect all the coins and put them in a decorative bag with the wording “You’ve made a great change in our lives”. My daughter’s 4th grade class did this for her and she loved it. And the bonus is everyone can be involved, everyone can afford it, and the teacher benefits with enough “change” to go for coffee with a girlfriend – or maybe even a dinner out with the family! If time allows, the teach can let the children separate the money into piles and count it out – that helps with math skills and gets the money sorted for her to take to the bank!
